Mussels All Year Round!
At this time of year, we are normally saying goodbye to mussels until September, not this year!
We are delighted to be working with the Fowey Shellfish Company, a fellow shellfish farm who grow mussels all year round. The wild mussel seed is collected out at sea on ropes and grown on to become the mussels in the deep clear water in St Austell Bay.
Mussels are one of the most sustainable forms of farmed food in the world. Not only do they actually improve the environment (by filtering the water that they grown in, but also they sequester carbon out of the water into their shells). As a result, they have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any grown foods too.
The mussels are delicious and so easy to prepare and cook at home, all you need is an onion, some white wine and cream not forgetting the obligatory crusty bread to soak up all the leftover sauce. It could not be easier or quicker.
