Wild Mersea Samphire
Hand picked from the marshes and creeks on Mersea, samphire is a bright green sea vegetable with a salty taste.
Samphire sometimes called the asparagus of the sea due to it's salty taste, crisp texture and it's bright green colour. Samphire is best cooked simply, boiled or steamed with a little olive oil or butter to create a delicious accompaniment to seafood and due to it's salty nature you can cut back on the salt too.
Sold in 500g bags, samphire is best kept in the fridge wrapped in a damp cloth and eaten within three days.
