Have you ever wondered how you grow oysters or how you harvest oysters from the sea?

We are opening the Fishery doors on Sunday 9th June and inviting you to come to East Mersea and learn all about oysters, lobsters and the other delicious seafood that comes from our rivers.

Fishery Tours

Paul will be offering tours of the Fishery, taking you through how we grow, harvest and grade oysters and showing you behind the scenes in the Oyster Room. You'll get to discover what else grows in the river and what an Oyster Bed looks like.

He will also show you around the Lobster Room, where you will get to see these amazing animals up close and learn about how important it is to know where your lobster has come from and how to choose a sustainable lobster.

Our oyster boat will be moored up to our quay, with our friendly oysterman onboard to tell you how the boat works and how we grow oysters here at the Fishery.

Food and Drinks on The Terrace

The Long Room and Terrace will be open with incredible views over Pyefleet Creek and the River Colne. Our kitchen will be open serving a range of seafood and sandwiches and the bar will be open serving hot and cold drinks.

If you would like to make the most of the day, we suggest pre-ordering a Seafood Platter to enjoy on the terrace, take a look here to see our available platters. When ordering, select to collect your platter on Sunday the 9th June and we will have it ready for you.

Activities for Children

We will have a shark themed bouncy castle, competitions and activities to keep children entertained.

Free entry, paid bar and cafe.

Please note: Not suitable for dogs. Only food and drink purchased at the Fishery may be consumed on site. Limited access for disabled people within the working parts of the Fishery, although we do have a lift access to the Long Room and Deck where refreshments will be served.
