No More Native Oysters Until September

colchester native oystersWe are sad to say that we are no longer selling our beautiful native oysters until September. Our native oysters are renowned as the sweetest available and it is from these native oysters that the saying you should only eat oysters when there is a R in the month comes from.

The native oysters start to reproduce in when the water gets warmer in May so they aren't dredged in the summer months. This means that we are giving the oysters the chance to produce the most amount of spat (babies) and then that spat has the best possible start. All this means that we have a sustainable source of native oysters for years to come.

Remember you can still enjoy our rock oysters during the summer months.
